What Is a Refurbished Desktop Computer?
A refurbished desktop is a pre-owned computer that has been inspected, cleaned, repaired where needed and prepared for a new owner. Many are former office machines from brands such as Dell, HP and Lenovo.
Refurbished
Checked, cleaned and prepared before sale. Faulty parts are repaired or replaced, and the operating system is set up again.
Second hand (as-is)
Sold in the condition it was received, often without any checks. Cheaper up front, but problems may only show up later.

Start with what you will use the computer for. These are sensible minimums; more RAM or a newer processor gives extra headroom.

Before you pay

Check these points for any refurbished desktop, from us or anyone else.
Processor generation, not just “i3” or “i5”. A 4th Gen Core i5 is much older than a 10th Gen Core i5.
SSD rather than a hard disk for faster start-up and loading.
RAM upgrade room if you may need more memory later.
Wi-Fi. Many office desktops have none and need a small USB Wi-Fi adapter.
Ports. Make sure HDMI or VGA matches your monitor (see the diagram below).
What is included. Monitor, keyboard, mouse, power and display cables.
Warranty in writing and a proper bill.
Check it in front of the seller before you take it home.
Windows 11: check before you buy
Microsoft ended Windows 10 support in October 2025. Windows 11 officially needs an Intel 8th Gen or newer processor (or an equivalent AMD chip) with TPM 2.0. Ask which Windows version is installed and whether it is genuine.
